Councillor Isa Lee’s COVID-19 Care Package Giveaway

Event details

The COVID-19 pandemic has presented unprecedented challenges to everyone, whether it be physically, mentally or financially. In light of the ongoing challenges, I decided to organize a COVID-19 Care Package Giveaway in December 2020, to provide families with PPEs and other items.

Many businesses and organizations offered to sponsor items for the care package without hesitation in hopes of helping the community during this holiday season. With their generosity, I was able to gather enough face masks, hand sanitizers, non-perishables, and many other essential and helpful items for 1,500 of these care packages. Also included are a number of coupons and flyers to help promote our local their businesses, non-profitable organizations, and programs.

With the support of 105 Gibson Centre, I was able to organize a contactless drive-thru pick-up in December to give out a portion of these care packages. After that, I hand delivered a majority of the care packages to residents. I also delivered a care package to each unit at Hagerman Corners and Tony Wong Place, two affordable housing buildings in Ward 8.

I hope everyone continues to stay home, stay safe and stay healthy. Together we will get through this.

Should wearing masks be made mandatory in public indoor places?

Markham Mayor Frank Scarpitti made a motion recently at York Regional Council to make wearing masks mandatory at all indoor spaces, and in crowded outdoor spaces where physical distancing is not possible. A report on mandating masks will be presented to council on July 9.

Since the motion was raised, I have received a number of calls with mixed emotions regarding to making masks mandatory in Markham.

I would also like to hear your option and feedback.
